      Hallöchen,

      ich möchte mir demnächst einen XPS 420 kaufen. Weil ich aber (außer zum Spielen) hauptsächlich Linux benutze, würde ich mich freuen, wenn jemand dazu Anmerkungen hätte.

      Achja: Super-hilfreich wären, falls es jemand machen könnte, die Ausgaben folgender Befehle:

      lspci
      lsusb
      dmesg

      Auf meinem XP-420 (Q6600, 8800 GTX, 3 GB RAM, 2x 320 GB Festplatte, Creative X-Fi Gamer) läuft Debian (Kanotix 2007-RC7 Thorhammer). Ich bin zufrieden, weils gut läuft. Da ich da wo der XPS-420 steht, habe ich momentan kein I-Net, kann dir deshalb die angeforderten Ausgaben nicht zukommen lassen, kann ich aber machen wenn ich wieder DSL habe.

      Einziges Manko, was ich derzeit ausmachen kann: Die Creative X-Fi Gamer funktioniert unter Linux nicht, weils es keine 32-Bit Linux Treiber dafür gibt. Wenn du ein 64-Bit System aufsetzt, könnte es funktionieren, weil es 64-Bit Treiber bei Creative gibt. Hürde könnte noch sein, dass die Dell-Creative X-Fi Gamer ein bißchen verändert wurde im vergleich zu einer "freien" Creative X-Fi Gamer. So funktionieren unter Windows nur die Dell-Creative Treiber, die von der Creative-Site gezogenen Windows-Treiber funktionieren nicht. Unter Linux könnten die gleichen Probleme drohen.

      Zum Glück gibts aber den OnBoard-Sound-Chip, der funktioniert unter Linux bestens. Also habe ich unter Linux OnBoard-Sound (gar nicht so schlecht finde ich) und unter Windows zum Spielen benutze ich den wirklich hammermäßigen Creative X-Fi Gamer Sound...

      Habe mir den Treiber gerade angeschaut. Scheint zwar diverse BLOBs einzubinden, aber immerhin ist er als Quelle verfügbar. Ich benutze nämlich ein 32-Bit-Gentoo Linux, aber einen 64-Bit-Kernel; ein fertiges Modul für z.B. SUSE hätte mir da nicht so viel genutzt. Ob die Karte im XPS damit funktioniert oder nicht, wird sich zeigen...

      Hallo, ich höre Du hast Linux auf dem Rechner, bei gleicher RAID-Konfiguration.
      Ich hoffe, Du kannst mir helfen.

      Ich möchte neben Vista noch Linux Mint 4 laufen lassen. Blöderweise erkennt die Linux-Instalation RAID ja nicht.
      Lösung: DMRAID von der LIVECD laden. Hab ich alles gemacht und klappt auch. Aber danach muss man ja die SWAP und das ROOT Partition zuweisen. Ich habe zwei 30 GB Partitionen auf der Raid 0 Platte dafür erstellt.
      Dateistruktur bei habe ich jeweils auf SWAP und EXT3 (bei ROOT) gestellt. Sprungpunkt bei ROOT ist "/".

      Wenn ich jetzt installieren will, bricht er bei der Formatierung der Partitionen ab.

      Die Windows-Partitionen setze ich auf "not used" oder lasse sie, funktioniert bei beidem nicht. Kannst Du mir weiterhelfen? Wie hast Du Linux draufgekriegt? Hast Du Vista evtl. gelöscht (würde bei Deiner Grafikkarte (Gamer) kaum Sinn machen).

      Vieleicht kannst Du mir den entscheidenden Tipp oder ne Minianleitung geben.

      Endlich wieder im Netz. Zwar nur DSL light, aber es ist erstaunlich flott.

      Zum Thema RAID: Mein XPS-420 ist entRAIDet worden. Die Platten laufen normal ohne RAID. Ich mag kein RAID.
